High-Intensity Interval Training improves fat metabolism and reduces waist circumference in obese women

34 obese women (BMI=30,8) trained for 12 weeks either high intensity (6-8 x 30 s @ 30 s rest; 2 sessions/week, intensity: 100% VO2max)or moderate intensity intervals (6-8 x 30 s @ 30 s rest; 2 sessions/week, intensity: 70-80% VO2max). Both training regimes improved endurance performance, reduced BMI, reduced levels of blood lipids (LDL, HDL, Adiponectin) and improved Insulin sensitivity. However waist circumference and total cholesterol were only reduced after High Intensity training.
