Meta-Analysis to reduce Weight: Combined Diet and Training seems to have the biggest Effects

The quantity of obese people doubled since 1980. This makes it easily understandable, why we need to fight against that trend. In a meta-analysis (21 selected trials; 3521 participants), Schwingshackl et al. investigated and compared the long-term effects of diet or exercise alone, as well as the combination of both on anthropometric variables and cardiovascular risk factors. Their result: The combination of a diet with exercise seems to hold the biggest benefit and is recommended  for long-term obesity management.
